Kapitza unveils striking new design for Clinique

Design Studio Kapitza has unveiled a striking new design for Clinique’s latest limited-edition cosmetics bag and accessories.

Chosen by Clinique for its creation of bold, colourful artworks, the studio – run by sisters Nicole and Petra Kapitza - has created Geometric Spheres, a dynamic and happy design of intersecting circles that gives the illusion of a shifting perspective, creating the impression that the viewer can ‘peek’ through the circles.
The design, created to compliment Clinique’s Pop product range, will feature on the company’s limited edition make up bag and accompanying packaging available throughout the United States and Europe. A monochrome version of the pattern is printed on the reverse of the bag.

Kapitza was approached by Clinique as fans of the studio’s globally renowned pattern art books, a series of books cataloguing the duo’s ongoing experimental research into geometric shapes and mathematical formulas a well as organic structures found in nature. Together with its intelligent conceptual colour language this defines the unique style of Kapitza’s art. The resulting design for Clinique is a true Kapitza design, reflecting the studio’s character and ethos.
Petra comments: “Geometric Spheres reflects our love of vivid, symmetrical design. Using bold saturated colours to reflect Clinique’s Pop products and based on simple geometric shapes, it gives the illusion of a shifting perspective, creating the impression that the viewer can ‘peek’ through the circles.” Nicole adds, “our aim was for something both playful and inspirational. The result combines our passion for vibrant colours, innovative patterns and stunning products.”

Kapitza is a multi-disciplinary design studio run by sisters Nicole and Petra Kapitza who share a passion for colour, patterns, mathematics and nature.
The studio collaborates with a wide range of international brands across the worlds of fashion, interiors, cosmetics, product design and publishing.
Their collaborators include Commes des Garcons, Gucci, Clinique, IKEA, TeNeues and USPS. Originally from rural South Germany,
Nicole and Petra founded their studio in 2004 in the creative hub of East London and have since evolved into pattern and colour experts. Kapitza has gained a global following for its innovative pattern art books. The publication of Kapitza’s Geometric book in 2008 sparked a resurgence of geometric art in fashion, interiors and illustration, but the intelligence of their patterns and unique use of colour is unsurpassed.
Kapitza’s next step is to bring to life their patterns in a new collection of innovative interior products inspired by their geometric artworks. Launching at Maison & Objet in September 2016.
